Tunis Sheep

Heritage Breeds > Tunis Sheep

We selectively raise registered Tunis sheep to the breed standard with an added emphasis on hardiness, twinning ability, and a ewe's ability to care for multiple births. Some of the lines represented in our small flock include Kendar, Mayes, Triple S and Harris.  Lambs that meet the breed standard are registered with NTSRI and are available for sale year round.  We usually have a limited number of freezer lambs available in the fall, as well.

The Tunis is a medium-sized sheep with beautiful red heads and legs and creamy off-white wool.  Their meat is mild flavored and tender.  We find the Tunis to be very easy keepers, docile and intelligent.

Tunis Sheep were first introduced to the United States in 1799 as a gift from the ruler of Tunisia. Today, the Tunis is listed by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy as in need of conservation and are part of the Slow Food Ark of Taste.  We are dedicated to preserving and promoting this wonderful old breed.

We offer a 10% discount to 4-H, FFA, and NTSRI junior member purchasers of Tunis sheep.
